Global awareness - one of the most important leadership skills of tomorrow
Posted by Johnny W. on
How do you foster in your young one, a familiarity and fondness for people around the world?
I recently read the following quote on a Forbes article:
"Outside of surface differences, we all have the same goals and desires for our families. We are in so many ways more similar than we are different."
I couldn't agree more.
Here's the link to the article, as well as 7 points it makes that reinforce how we can raise children to be more aware:
- Encourage curiosity and questions
- Read, read, read
- Learn "from" not "about": It’s important to make sure you’re learning from other cultures, rather than about them. Be sure to highlight that when people do things differently from your family, their way is just as valuable as your way and you can learn from them. Engaging with new cultures isn’t a spectator sport. It’s an opportunity to engage with and develop meaningful relationships with people.
- Empathize
- Travel, travel, travel
- Expand their horizons
- Teach your kids another language
